Dense audio collages, fractured percussion and blissful modulations

July 2020 saw the release of Dissolved‘s Opacity Fragments—13 electronic slices venturing through mysterious, melodic, and nostalgic sonic streams. Not at all new to the IDM scene, Dissolved has numerous releases under his belt and as a sound and visual sculptor, he usually defies convention—opting for dense audio collages, fractured percussion and blissful modulations that evolve and devolve with crunchy bits and bytes flickering from all angles.

For example, on “Sparking Chriopterophilous Eyes” Dissolved embarks on rugged bass jabs, mechanical constructs and an abstract rhythm that is at once crashing and eventually shifts through serene ambient waves—fans of The Future Sound of London take note. There are more liquid extractions as featured on tracks like “September Interramification Loch” to the microscopic techno / pseudo-clicks’n cuts of “This Fading Glimpse.” Keeping with darker atmospheric tinges, “Cymophane Stairwell” expands into distilled hypnotic layers of dust and debris. Dissolved’s signature is buried deep within each track, even if a bit more refined and minimal this time around, tracks like “Translucent Capacity” offer shimmering lights in a textured swath of pitter-patter beats with an organic feel.

Not overtly over the top or breaking new ground, Opacity Fragments provides just the right amount of energy to get us through these strange times as it surrounds us with minimal exp-electronic sheets.
