CL4 collects a myriad of found sounds and polished audio spheres—recycling old-school breaks, bass, and melodic layers with new-school punctuation.
Pulling together a vast braindance crew
Braindance focused Xephem push forward with fifteen tracks for their Compiler compilation series, elevating one level at a time. On their fourth ascent, we see the imprint delving full speed through frenetic breaks’n bleeps (WHRK, Mause, ®adår, Confreg), skittering crunch crescendos (Chromasy), funk-infested acid workouts (Fxbip, Zαδlεr, sin:it:sin, Spectrin), brittle lullaby techno (Fergus McQueenie), downtempo bass thuds (NIKE_VOMITA, Tysk Raider, Dr. Doctor), and drill’n bass abstracts (Steifl, Idiac). There’s simply too much to digest and the range of styles is baffling.
CL4 collects a myriad of found sounds and polished audio spheres—recycling old-school breaks, bass, and melodic layers with new-school punctuation. Within these minted and expandable tracks, one can easily lose themselves in the surge of rhythmic highs and lows, leaving an audible echo that sets the stage for the next level.
Kudos to Xephem for cultivating these exquisitely abstract electronic sounds, pulling together a vast braindance crew, and passing on the proverbial IDM torch as the forefathers (such as Warp, Skam, MAS, Rephlex, Planet Mu, Pause2, Toytronic, and Neo Ouija) intended in the mid/late 90s and early 00s.
