Where undulating ambient meets a gravitational arch, Coax peers through macroscopic lenses to reveal the subtle inertia of exemplary abstract electronic music.
Norwegian-based Coax (aka Nicolai Vassend) adheres to a distinctive sound dynamic—that of buried frequency tones and assured electronic projections. Balancing a myriad of styles, a fluctuating turbulent mass is entangled among definitive sound design, post-industrial clips and electro slivers ever so carefully weaved. Taking these seemingly disparate sonic elements, Coax appears well schooled in form and function, depth and dissection, of such leftfield musical space and collects a dozen beat centric pieces from 2008-2013 for the COM series.
Broken synths, raw mechanical rhythms and contrasting basslines are mulched and filtered into a fluid whole. Found sounds dismount from the edges, leaving COM1 determined to carve its own path, to coalesce into a fragmented exploratory realm which it displays so well. Where undulating ambient meets a gravitational arch, Coax peers through macroscopic lenses to reveal the subtle inertia of exemplary abstract electronic music.
COM1 is available on Bandcamp.
