Music to blister eardrums and break speakers; in other words proper dark and mean techno.
I was surprised when Tabernacle Records announced its Ride the Gyroscope sub-label. The Glasgow/London imprint is no strangers to a side series. Head Front Panel run is a good example, but the choice of artist for this new endeavor did cause an involuntary eyebrow raise.
Boneless One, until this year, had little output. A track, a fleeting glance, on ProForm Series; that was it. But the Finn proved his worth. Across two 12”s the gyroscope was well and truly rode. Across seven tracks the diversity of acid was laid bare. Thumping squawk, racing rhythms with just a hint of soulful refrain.
It’s in the glow of this success that Boneless One returns to the homeland and mother label of ProForm with the ferociously titled Hazard Bringer. That overarching violence that characterized his first EPs for Tabernacle is here in all its acid mutated glory. This isn’t gentle walk in the park stuff. This is late night, grease and grime mixed with blood and spit. The 303 is lager soaked and ready for debauchery. Beats are hammered, pounded into submission as dance floors buckle. Dirty, wretched and wonderful. “Acid Madd.” “Jep Jepp.” “Drop It Kool.” “ Hei!.” All are cut from the same corrupted cloth. Depraved din and thump. “Hei!” might be the most demon eyed of all. Drums roll, battering into one another. Hi hats, snares, claps and bass are put into the mixer and blitzed; acrid distortion seeping out the sides.
Hazard Bringer is bawdy and bangin’, it comes from a similar place to other sounds on ProForm like Helium. Music to blister eardrums and break speakers; in other words proper dark and mean techno.
Hazard Bringer is available on ProForm Series.
