Boneless One :: Woofers (Selvamancer)

A lover of all things acid and all things raw, the veteran of ProForm and central figure of Tabernacle’s Ride the Gyroscope is on it from the needle drop.

Zona Watusa is a label making its first vinyl steps. With twelve tapes under its belt the Barcelona based platform is widening the net and turning to the dancefloor with its new wing, Selvamancer. To inaugurate this venture an artist with a unique knack for musical depravity has been chosen, the man simply known as Boneless One.

A lover of all things acid and all things raw, the veteran of ProForm and central figure of Tabernacle’s Ride the Gyroscope is on it from the needle drop. “When I Close My Eyes I Can’t See The Stars But I Can See You” is brutally distorted from the get go. Syrupy 303 lines are laced with rusted claps and cymbal crashes. Rising from this concoction are circling piano keys, looping to produce carnivalesque unease. The punches continue to fly with the fearsome “Woofers.” Beats are bludgeoned into battered batons of rhythm while a grotesque melody is carved out. “Dunkelwelt Body Clone” allows for no let up as the Boneless One adopts Chicago style samples to infect is already toxic brew. This mutant mosh comes to a close with “Embargo.” The outsider of the quartet, kicks shoulder their way into the red as a fiendish organ lines is doused in acidic squawk. Somewhere between haunted fairground and techno banger and you’d be on the right track.

With Boneless One you know what you are getting. Rough and ready bangers that will ignite speakers and your neighbour’s anger. Selvamancer claims to be “trying desperately to maintain its balance on a psychedelic tightrope throughout the multiverse, but in the end, it just likes to release good party music”, they’ve certainly managed the latter with Woofers.

Woofers is available on Selvamancer.
