Peaceful, chaotic and all around in the intelligent electronic music arena, Cheikh is choke full of percussive instrumentals and electrical rainstorms.
Back in the early 2000s Merck Records set the standard for what they termed electronified hip-hop and their legacy continues to spill over into many productions these days. BeK’s extended player fits into that category, a reserved shift into electronic music and its tamed rhythmic shuffling. Downbeat, chilled and glitched at the edges, brittle melodic bubbles crash into each other from all angles. “Bathroom,” perhaps the finest of the lot, takes it cues from a clip-hop environment and unleashes tranquilized ambient undertones best representing BeK’s sound sculpting. The title track and its clipped vocal chops hark back to Machinedrum’s early days. Peaceful, chaotic and all around in the intelligent electronic music arena, Cheikh is choke full of percussive instrumentals and electrical rainstorms.
Cheikh is available on Kaometry.
