Dave Henson, previously of melodic post-rockers Gwei-Lo, launches new UK label Tripel Records with his debut release as Ascolatre. Henson constructs his music by combining elements of gritty lo-fi digital textures, fragile instrumental lines and warm melodies carefully pieced together to form a complex shifting fusion of natural and digital microscopic sound. Reminiscent in a lot of ways to the work of Leafcutter John but less dense and more spacious, Henson creates a fluid sonic landscape of minute ever-changing sounds. Also releasing their debut is Tripel’s sister CDR label, Dubbel Records. Ascoltare again launches this label with a 3″ CDR 733 image 1 single containing 2 remixes of “Drugs”, a collaboration with former Ultramagnetic DJ Keith Thornton. The track itself places Henson’s intricate electronics alongside Thornton’s odd rapping style, adding an abstract breakbeat for the “2cb mix” while the “2ci mix” is the more abstract of the two, experimenting with clicks and cuts and drone while duelling with Thornton’s drug stories. Overall, an interesting debut from Dubbel who plan on releasing mini “audio art” CDR’s, this one coming complete with fake drugs.

Both Viseral Vendor & Drugs are out now.
