A sense of sonic engulfment
Ultimae records is one solid publisher hailing from France and whose musical interest is largely focused on kinetic and chilling space ambient music with a pulsating electronic edge. Their visual-musical identify is easily if not immediately recognizable just as other labels such as Databloem, Glacial Movements and Hypnos for similar covered genres. I honestly have a problem with narrow categorization which risks to be a trap with a tendency to find the same grooves and electronic patterns from one album to an other and at the end finishing on a growing feeling of annoyance. Such difficulty is promptly eradicated for a label such as Glacial Movements due to the vast array of great quality electronic music proposed under a cohesive editorial line. Since I’m not familiar with Ultimae Records‘ entire discography, I’m at a loss for words. At least this remastered version of AES DANA feat. MIKTEK’s Far & Off (the original from 2016) appears to be a cornerstone of their production and a great start for those who want to go further.
Thus we navigate through deep then sidereal synth-scaping sound waves sustained by micro beat-laden pulses and various textured manipulations to provide a sense of sonic engulfment. This album can convince—without any difficulty—avid and passionate listeners of post-techno’ish music shrouded in a sci-fi spaced-out thrill. Not among my favorites declinations of the electronic ambient music genre (we are here at the crossroad between mechanical advanced digitalized patterns in electronic music and smooth new-age synth excursions) but it is made with skills, clarity and experience. Recommended for fans of Pete Namlook, The Fires of Ork, Monolake, Ian Boddy, and Stephen Parsick.
