1stname Lastname :: Human Memories (Heterodox)

Human Memories traces fragile recollections, heat-soaked streets, and departures, charting a journey from imagined past toward hard-won, luminous becoming.

Heterodox imprint introduces Portland videographer Arson Rivvers with an eight-track debut under his musical moniker 1stname Lastname. The BPM and aesthetic nod toward vaporwave signifiers, though that framing only grazes the surface. Opener “Creation” lands like a shrill synthwave “ta-da,” a finely observed paean to a past that never quite existed. “Connection” follows with end-credits energy—walking off into joy, into a future you can almost touch—expansive and quietly transformative.

“Destruction” sets events in motion through stuttering waves, drops, and filters, placing our protagonist in the necessary descent before the inevitable ascent. “Objectificatio”n explores hazy terrain, steeped in early morning hot pavements and heat-soaked summers, its fragile, soul-tinged vocal introducing a tender tension—angels flickering through bruised cityscapes. “Inebriation” narrows into a doors-closed, filtered pulse, where fragments of dialogue surface through a fugue of aged celluloid glow. “Consumption” pairs a lilting melody with thick Linn Drum rhythms and towering synths, suggesting a departure—personal, irreversible—in a lush, candied lament. “Rumination” lingers in rainfall and refuge, contemplative without excess. Finally, “Maturation” rolls like closing credits, returning to that palette with a sense of closure—hands steady, ready to heal. It plays like a film already in motion; you simply arrive mid-scene.

An eight-track arc of shifting states, Human Memories traces fragile recollections, heat-soaked streets, and departures, charting a journey from imagined past toward hard-won, luminous becoming. It stayed with me long after the final note, lingering like a half-remembered film, flickering in grainy Betamax neon—a memory perhaps never made, yet impossibly alive.
