Ultra-prolific Shimmering Moods present their final releases for 2015, so quick heads up before we get too far into 2016, in the spirit of news rather than reviews—Limited Liability Sounds, Fontaine, and Arkadelphia.
Polish ambient/electronic musician Adam Mańkowski aka Limited Liability Sounds attributes inspiration for Surrounding Countryside to Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, wherein the author renounces material economy for spiritual wealth, immersing himself in nature, observing and recording the surrounding flora and fauna freeing him for study and thought. Thus inspired, Surrounding Countryside is a response to a fast-changing world—a cautious attempt to create ambient music that’s more reflection than interpretation of the natural world.
All the way from the Wild West of England comes Fontaine (John Thornfield to his Mum) with Diamond Lake. Apparently inspired by industrial parks, forest floors, insomnia and the landscape paintings of Ronnie Landfield, it contains four tracks of finely wrought deep-reaching ambience with rich dark hues of electronic drift.
Last Shimmering Moods suite of 2015 is a special one by Tennessee’s Arkadelphia, whose debut, Islands of Mind, brings acres of lushness and wooze. All you could want here in four hours of ambient bliss, outsider techno and electronic sketches via a wooden walnut USB stick (with a special brown paper bag + photos + extra download code for MP3, WAV or FLAC files).
All the above are available from Shimmering Moods, Databloem, Norman Records, & Stashed Goods (in Jan.)
