Goodbye, but not farewell :: Femur Mix

I was lucky enough to get behind the turntables there in November of 2015, a mangled and mashed warm up mix before Alessandro Parisi and Juanpablo rounded off a cracking Frigio Showcase. Never got round to doing a track list and hence the wait, only took 18 months!

Friday night. Rain. Hail. Oppressive heat. Round the flat. Listen to records and shoot the breeze.

The pre-club ritual is as ubiquitous as it is special. This was my once monthly ritual in Madrid, until recently. Hammer down whatever booze was available, smoke too many cigarettes, listen to quality electronic music, chat some rubbish in broken Spanish, go home when the sun comes up.

This was my four year experience of Femur, a celebration of all things synthesizer in Specka. The night, ran by Arch, or Aitor, collected some of the best and boldest from the world of machine music. Lux Rec and Borft nights. Rude 66 and his wife dishing up vocoder wonders. Das Ding and In Aeterum Vale with wave tinted techno. Visonia. Mick Clarke. Shemale. Solvent. The list goes on and on.

But it wasn’t just the music, as anyone with a club night close to their heart will know. To sound like a presidential candidate, it was the people. The folks and freaks who turned out en masse every month to flail their aging limbs on the floor.

I was lucky enough to get behind the turntables there in November of 2015, a mangled and mashed warm up mix before Alessandro Parisi and Juanpablo rounded off a cracking Frigio Showcase. Never got round to doing a track list and hence the wait, only took 18 months!

Femur closed its doors a little while back, Aitor eyeing up new adventures and avenues; I’ve a sneaking suspicion a label could be around the corner.

Here’s my mix, many of tracks I’ve covered here on Igloo, from that night in all its all-thumbs glory (apologies for being unable to reminder the third track, any help would be appreciated). A very small tribute to Femur, a club night that will live on in its mixes, memories and maybe something else quite soon.
