A blistering foray into broken industrial electronics, Steve Canfield (aka Otherr) emits a growling beast of a release titled Floating Stones for Bulgaria-based Mozyk with artwork by none other than our favorite sound mangler Sorin Paun (aka Randomform).
With 2.5 years of preparation while living and traveling around various cities across Europe and North America, one can hear the influences on Floating Stones—varied and disparate—especially evident on the title track where otherworldly voices drift alongside robust bass and beats. Laser blasts and flickering braindance elements pierce through “Agnostic Swarm” as “Light Switch” radiates its buzzing synth distortion acting as a sort of interlude on this half-hour, 10-track jaunt. The turbulence doesn’t end there, “Deimos” also blasts its drill’n bass sheen with misshapen rhythms as “Gravity Womb” allows a few subtle melodics to pass through its rugged electronics outer shell. Closing with a droning atmospheric reprieve, “Amen” maintains a tranquil escape from its siblings, diving into synth bliss with an utterly contagious and emotive flow.
