Gescom-inspired glitch, bass, distortion, leftfield techno, and all manner of distraction leaves this EP in a field of its own.
Turbo Teeth is the solo project of one of Athens’ most offbeat musicians Giorgos Axiotis, member of Balinese Beast, Free Piece of Tape, Holefold and Tom Cruisin’. Released in limited quantities (300 white vinyl), but also available as digital, Yellow Equals One offers five disjointed, beat-heavy, and rhythm chopped pieces. “Money Over Glitches” wanders about via mutant melodic clicks and deranged percussive slabs—strange frequency bursts abound. On the lounge electronica of “Big Troubles,” Turbo Teeth reveals a unique aural transmission—slightly funky in delivery, it’s an upbeat mechanical deformation of sound and space. YEO can be taken with a grain of salt, its pitter-patter abstract sounds oscillate between otherworldly (ie. “Dial A Discos (pt. I & II)”) to ambient industrial fragments (ie. “Chica’s Palindromes”). Closing on a high-note, the robust downtempo pulse of “Tropical Tape Transit (pt. I & II)” is a culmination of the above-mentioned bits and pieces. Gescom-inspired glitch, bass, distortion, leftfield techno, and all manner of distraction leaves this EP in a field of its own. Baffling electronics versus instrumental noodling created with a sense curiosity and improvisation.
