Good Weather For An Airstrike is a solo project, originally setup to make relaxing music and induce sleep, to battle creator Tom Honey’s tinnitus. It’s no surprise that Little Steps is as gentle and pleasant as it is—dreamy, easygoing and never hurried.

This record is certainly not boring though—falling asleep is not the lingering effect of Little Steps. Yes, there is plenty of space in this record but it does have a pulse and is full of life. Often these tracks rise up in ambient textures and then come to the boil with all sorts of sounds – chimes, guitars, electronics. Of course this is a simple formula, letting Tom Honey be direct in what moods he wants to explore, while being laid back in his overall execution.
What’s refreshing about Little Steps is how it’s all put together. The contents themselves are rather simple, yet their fusion makes for a warm and pure sound.
Tracks like “Every Day’s New,” “Blossom” and “Just One More Evening” nod to Mogwai in their ambient, art-rock style. While, “Hello Darling,” “A Cold Like No Other,” and “Little Rain” move toward the electronic realm, taking cues from Brian Eno. There’s a drifting nature in Tom Honey’s guitar work, the melodies are plucked patiently and often trickle along with ambience building in the background. On the flip side, his electronic focused tracks are progressive and tightly produced. They’re technical and have more nuts and bolts about them.
For some, Little Steps could be too slow a burner, yet it’s worth getting your head around—this is a pleasant and urgent piece of music that burns well into the night.
