Without a doubt, one of the most sincere, transportive, and surreal panoramic ambient releases of 2019.
18 pieces, four of which are remixes, and the third release I’m aware of, Blochemy transitions down a new path. Where previous outings evolved with crunchy beatwork and pleasant sonic territory, Rea is the foray into relaxed layers, a nostalgic ambient opus (have a listen to “Wif C” and “Tykoe,” for example)—each delicate slice of life oozing with emotion. A serene view of times gone by, piano keys gently tap in the background—Rea is an album for long drives along the coastline, for getting lost with, and for finding yourself again.
Woven with wonder and bewilderment, Blochemy allows an influx of subtle clips, blips, and miniscule tones (ref. “Ke Qui”) to expand and contract—a calming soundtrack as synthesized drones lap each other. Time slowly pushes forward, Blochemy the astute navigator on this tranquil traverse. Tiny, yet audible shuffling occurs on the effervescent “Awe Nap,” a blurring of static noises allowed to inhabit your every thought. And just when you find yourself nestled in, the mysterious pitter-patter clicks of “Hevi” tugs on your heartstrings with its organic and fuzzy beauty. One can clearly hear the Atol Scrap influence on “Grai Dmo,” a drifting bubble of emotive ambient slivers that simply illuminates as Arovane did some 20-years ago. The remixes are just as vibrant and rewarding as the album and perhaps better suited as a separate extended player—they blissfully weave extended tapestries that wholey compliment the originals.
Without a doubt, one of the most sincere, transportive, and surreal panoramic ambient releases of 2019.
