Random Value offers Clean Error their 31st release and pulls together a vast electrical tapestry that spans through emotion and erratic tendencies—a 180-degree switch from the kaleidoscopic musical entity that was Chromatic Aberration (Clean Error, 2014). “Yreedys” drives its skittery beats into a blender, all the while a familiar wandering melody evolves and decays among disjointed glitch jabs. “Duplo Nerum” is a bit more relaxed, its lullaby gently churning around drill’n bass moments and a soundtrack haven for lost souls. Chuku Kelev might only contain four pieces, but it also offers a glimpse into the artists’ sonic capability. On “4SD” the beats continue to punctuate—this time with surreal ambient streams that ebb and flow in disturbed yet cohesive form. “S-30,” perhaps the most abstract of the lot, delves further into Squarepusher tones, drones, and skittery percussive bits. Its emphasis on creative energy bursts, “S-30” takes the listener into a fast-paced world of robust beats, bass, and a booming altered reality.
