Benjamin Finger :: 9,5 EP (Sellout! Music)

Sometimes you’ve got to go a little out of your comfort zone. (Frank) Benjamin Finger, known for his cross-platform approach to music, film and photographer, has etched out a new 3-track EP for Sellout! Music that does just that. Gritty uncomfortable noise meets faded voices singing behind crackling clicks and corroded cuts. This appears clear on “Orange Monday,” a bittersweet symphony of melody and tangled synths, yet it comes across as a Fennesz versus B.Fleischmann concoction that simply works. On the extended “Party Corpse,” Finger delivers a crystalline digitized trove of modular bubbles, ambient noodling and submerged electronic hypnosis. Over six-minutes eclipse in a delicate sporadic wash—this is where Benjamin Finger shines. “P-ê+Æp mj-êu-Éz+¬kGÇÅ” delves into more (accessible) head-nod terrain, blissfully engaging the senses with abstract sonic dust particles, weaving voices and flickering low-end bass ricocheting off industrial beats. Somehow, 9,5 manages to encapsulate an oddly pleasant space outside of the above-mentioned comfort zone and entangles itself in a brisk experimental-pop 3-pack.

9,5 is available on Sellout! Music.
