Teslasonic :: Electrical Oscillator Activity (Minimal Rome)

It’s been six years since the duo of Teslasonic graced Minimal Rome with The Spark Of Prometheus. Since them the sound of that Italian label has expanded, uncovering new and talented musicians whilst pushing their electronic mantra.

The latest sextet recalls past journeys by Gianluca Bertasi (Feedback) and Valerio Lombardozzi (Heinrich Dressel.) A moody, futurist style is laid down from need drop. From the grooves loom towers of glass and steel, hover cars gleaming in screaming sunlight. But there’s an analogy within this analogy. The record, described as an “electronic ode to electricity,” depicts a cityscape of circuits, currents and pulses. Cold calculations are balanced by warming strokes. Frigid flows bend for “Rotating Magnetic Field”, countered by the lush mechanics of opener “High Frequency Coil.” Meandering, yet spirited, analogue algebra rumbles in the metallic veins of “Teslascope Radio Transmitter “ and “Tuned Receiving Transformer.”

But this record is far from dark functioning machine music. “Control Of Individualised Automats” aches with soulful synths, bassy bulges poking through the brittle beats. The partnership turn soundtrack for the final, a curving and whimsical sci fi end credit.

Electrical Oscillator Activity will fall under the genre tag of electro, but it’s much more. Amidst complex abstraction are moments of human frivolity, playful funk laden bars. Hopefully this return will mean more from the future gazing Teslasonic.

Electrical Oscillator is available on Minimal Rome.
