Twelve rhythmically-driven and highly spacious tracks assemble a journey soaked in atmosphere.
Prolific Lyon-based record label, Ultimae, strikes again—this time with a beautiful set of reflective downtempo electronica tracks by Greek artist Mihalis Aikaterinis (aka Miktek). After releasing an album on Abstrakt Reflections, and being featured on two various artists compilations on Ultimae, Miktek provides his most mature and crystallized work to date.
Elsewhere fits comfortably in the Ultimae catalog. With its own original personality it seductively dwells in the darker sonic planes the multicolored label has been exploring, at some points even sounding a bit like AES Dana—one of Ultimae’s founders and most interesting artists.
Twelve rhythmically-driven and highly spacious tracks assemble a journey soaked in atmosphere. The movement is slow and dreamy, each track morphs elegantly, pushing forward with throbbing basslines, ethereal motifs and luscious beats in the forefront while in the background there’s a stirring activity of looming layers. It’s a smooth, chilled out ride, very consistent in sound and style. A beautiful three-part Ultimae style digipak with a 16 pages booklet makes this a complete package. While some Ultimae aficionados will feel right at home when listening to Elsewhere, others might find it a bit too safe, and hope the next output from this excellent imprint will be a bit bumpier, edgier, and more diverse in sound and style.
