It was in 2011 that I first came across AC Records. Over year later, and this German label quietly beavers away. Beyond the pomp AC tirelessly seeks out quality electro, and finds it. For its latest crop of releases AC briefly left mainland Europe to the islands of the West.
First up is a something special. Matthew Flanagan is an Irish produced turning heads. I say special as an Irish electronic artist is quite a rarity. Flanagan has been dishing up his brand of calculated electro since 2010. Last year he served five track of deep electronics. Cold beats slice through sci-fi inspired melodies for an aluminum clad vision of the future.
Also coming from 2012, Plant 43 aka Emile Facey offered up the awe inspiring Driven By Magnetics. The UK artist has garnered a lot of respect following quality releases on imprints like Ai Records and Semantica. Four works of soulfully melodic electro were formed for AC. Coldness juxtaposed by warmth, the 12” takes on the mysteries of space whilst keeping a link to the floor.
Britain’s Kurt Baggaley aka Scape One has also been drafted in by AC. The UK man has served up his brand of electro on a range of labels, including Cultivated Electronics and Drivcom. With Migration Scape One has crafted full figured basslines, 808 snaps and lilting harmonies combine for some classic electro sounds. The title piece blurs the lines as electronica abstraction enters for a superb finish.
With the arrival of 2013 AC is already releasing. This time a split EP on newcomer Biodred aka Petru Lindroos of ProForm Series fame and Matti Turunen. Undoubtedly these two will serve up an EP of IDM infused electro of the highest quality. But then again, that is what AC Records have been doing since its inception. A growing catalog of elevated electronics from a bold and brilliant imprint.
