Leading the listener to a state of emotional stillness
Vigilant is a relatively new deep sound art project and noisy-drone musical entity formed by Dmitry Polivenko. After having made a few digital releases in all discretion, Vigilant delivers a new effort on the important indie label Glacial Movements, known for its long-standing existence in the field of wintry ambient isolationism and slowly expanding drone music with a distinctive melodious component. Notable projects such as Murcof, Bvdub, Celer, Loscil, and Rapoon meet new promising musical actors in textural cinematic ambient music.
Vigilant offers here a meticulously crafted and sentient electronic release where processed field recordings interact with dreamily flowing dronescapes. A magical and magnetic feeling rises to the surface, leading the listener to a state of emotional stillness. This album tends to be lighter, more minimal, and more soothing than his previous effort. The conceptual background follows scrupulously the themes always approached by the label: the evocative, thoughtful, and unusual mental states created by the uniqueness of northern landscapes and the polar natural world in general.

Abundant sonic and ghostly overlapping effects ::
“Winter Has His House” opens the album with a heart-moving piece filled with dramatic effects and a sense of bleak emotional isolationism built on timbres and shifting electronic motifs. The album gently flows from one track to another with a never-ending bittersweet inclination, built on melodious, plaintive synthesized chords with a strong pathos (as in “Lullaby”) and longing, grey moodscapes with abundant sonic and ghostly overlapping effects (“Cold Silent Love,”) alongside more nervous, distorted tectonic drones (“Into the Black Light”).
This album is a welcome addition to Glacial Movements and its personal view on soundtrack-like arctic ambient music, capable of delivering brooding crescendos alongside more spiritually ascending, enlightened moments. Drone music at its most pleasant, harrowing, hypnotic, and transportive. Recommended for fans of dark and ethereal droning pearls by Paul Jebanasam, Kali Malone & Drew McDowall, Celer, Hotel Neon, and Moss Covered Technology.
