A calm range of ambient-electronic soundscapes
London-based duo Artificial Island, lifelong friends Gareth Williams and Ian Prytherch, announce their debut album, Another World, bringing together some of their strongest material from previous releases alongside three new tracks: “Spirit,” “A Different Sun,” and “Departure.” It also includes their most widely recognized track, “Emerge,” a delicate blend of softened synth tones and lullaby-like melodies. All material has been remastered by Guy Davie at Electric Mastering in London, whose credits include Jon Hopkins, Marconi Union and Four Tet. Between cascading ambient-techno archways and ethereal waves of light, Another World generates carefully focused momentum.
Traversing Another World, Artificial Island gradually unfolds a calm range of ambient-electronic soundscapes, with each track given room to develop through subtle shifts in texture and tone. “After Dark” is built around a floating atmosphere, soft electronic tones and light glitches that drift in and out of focus. “A Different Sun” introduces neo-classical elements, gently moving through cinematic textures and restrained melodic passages, while “Departure” focuses on microscopic details, weaving soft blips and bleeps around low-flying beat pulses and a steady, understated rhythmic strain.
As the album moves towards its closing tracks, “Lodestar” returns to spacious, celestial textures, balancing subtle movement with a sense of stillness. Closing piece “Lumen” takes a more distant approach, built from isolated ambient tones, soft electronic whirs and fragments that seem to hover just beyond reach. Built around atmospheric electronics, ambient textures and carefully layered detail, Another World should appeal to fans of Boards of Canada, Marconi Union and Carbon Based Lifeforms. The artwork was designed by Chris Bigg, who spent three decades at 4AD’s legendary v23 design studio alongside Vaughan Oliver, creating artwork for Pixies, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, The Breeders, and David Sylvian. Bigg has remained David Sylvian’s long-time design collaborator ever since. Another World is self-released on October 2, 2026, available across streaming platforms as well as CD and a limited-edition 2x180g white-vinyl pressing.
