Ilya Baramiya and Alexander Zaitcev (aka Eu) have definitely refined their sound since there full length on Art-Tek (Eu-Soft) and a couple early debut releases for Pause2 including the Wienn / Srez 7″ and Reframing mini-album. With Tuner (6-track EP), an improved and undeniable maturity has evolved in the Eu soundscape. Tracks such as “Veefun” veer into Gescom’ish beats tied to a long winding bassline. “Complex” runs through layers upon layers of digital effects, theremin styled waves and an experimental wash of electrical beats, while the highlight track, “Somn” is as perfect as arithmetic –a beautiful bassline and precise melody are the exact ingredients that make this EP worth it for this track alone. While the third cut called “Most” veers in a dark-moody and motionless direction, the title track “Tuner” deserves high marks for its Russian electronic feel we’ve learned to love from labels like Art-Tek, Cheburec and Shaped Harmonics.

Precious chords molded to twisted sheets of metallic tweaks –an aquatic soundwave filters its way deep in to your subconscious with every track –this is Eu’s landscape of electrically emotive music. Imagine Plaid using some of Andre Estermann’s equipment, and you have just a hint of Eu’s latest sound sculpting production. A highlight EP for Eu, and one that will share many positive vibes with those who have an open ear for refined electronic collages and penetrative basslines. Highly recommended.
