TN006 CD :: Dubbing Mixers: “Valkoin Huopa” / “Whte Felt”

“Experimental electronic hip-hop beat tracks taken over by noises and hum; Half of the work is done by tape itself, hence the randomly selected squeaks and warmth. Packed in a smooth white felt cover done in a Tuulanauhat location in Finland. Burned on a CD and painted red by mouth-less hands. Total playing time 72 minutes and 56 seconds with 21 tracks tracks in total.

The story of Tuulanauhat began in the Summer of 2001, when they started to record their own music on inexpensive tapes bought from flee markets and hospitals (yes, they had hundreds of tapes full of heart monitoring beeps). They received some positive feedback and decided to continue releasing their brand of distorted electronic experiments. A 7″ record has been released as well as some tapes and finally the White Felt CD.

Tuulanauhat consists of three guys, 2 Finns, Samuli and Markus and a French guy, Gregoire and is mostly a label for our own products. Under the Tuulanauhat label we made some 8mm short movies, exhibitions, t-shirts and now electronic instruments designed and built by Gregoire (“TN-LABS”).

The project Dubbing Mixers is Samuli & Markus, both musicians. Composing a blend of hip-hop electronics versus experimental music and achieving a unique sound by using lot of different tape players, reel-to-reel, old samplers, tape loops, TN-Labs instruments and other analog sources. The White Felt album is mostly composed, recorded, compiled and mixed by Markus, while Samuli worked on a couple of tracks. Cover is designed and realized by Markus.

When Dubbing Mixers play live, Gregoire supports the act with two 8mm film projectors showing loops, and movies laced over each other.”
