BUNKR :: Antenne (VLSI)

Antenne effortlessly maps a new direction for saccharine synth-infused electronica while feeling like a call to the nostalgia and perplexing soundscapes from a few decades ago.

In November 1996, Antenne, an influential pirate radio station that aired seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, went completely silent. Unaware of the identity or source of inspiration, BUNKR’s tribute to the pirate radio station sheds light on the golden age of electronics—uplifted through this eight-piece suite creating its own transmission throughout the cosmos. BUNKR provides a wide spectrum of vintage Orbital-like patterns (“I Feel Eye See” and “Nectar Rushes”) where a technoid polish makes way for lighting melodic threads. The artist finds engaging synths, sentimental ambient structures, and dips them in tranquil electronica and breaks.

There are also sporadic soundtrack moments and brittle rhythms throughout; check “Oriam Speedway” and the opening track “Aquatakt” where BUNKR throws down lightwaves in glittering ambient techno color. From the soothing lullaby drift of “Ceres Outpost” to the bubbling sci-fi of “Over The Karman Line” and the mesmerizing conclusion of “Waiting In Tofino,” Antenne effortlessly maps a new direction for saccharine synth-infused electronica while feeling like a call to the nostalgia and perplexing soundscapes from a few decades ago.
