Chase Dobson :: The Mechanics of Time Travel (Young Heavy Souls)

A mind bending and surreal sonic adventure, capturing the voltage of analog machines and casting them into the sunshine.

The essence of life through modular synths

Finding the essence of life through modular synths, these are essential tunes from a multi-talented sound smith—with drifts and drones, brittle melodic fibers, and downtempo rhythms of nostalgic beauty. What more could be said? What more can we ask for? Each track crafted with attention to every detail, subtle voices weave into and out of our consciousness—elements of fragile shoegaze moments (“The Aura Yellow”) take us through memories of yesteryear as the humming synthesizer realms of the title track releases just enough magnetic energy to lift all of humanity.

Such tranquilized compositions, and yet Chase Dobson—aka c.db.sn who had past releases with Tympanik Audio and Plastic Sound Supply—creates vast sound-escapes and lively transmissions that traverse the sun with aural vistas beyond comprehension (“Solina”) while the short runtime on “(39.222777503257724, -96.32550170776499)” has us in a state of flux with its port-royal and Boards of Canada interluding sheen; and it should be mentioned that many other pieces exude familiar BoC sparks. A mind bending and surreal sonic adventure, capturing the voltage of analog machines and casting them into the sunshine.
