It’s no surprise that BLAEN (aka John Healy) encapsulates the farthest depths of electrical collisions; he’s been at it for over two decades, honing his skills behind machines and dangling cables.
Analog synth grooves and disjointed electronics
More analog synth grooves and disjointed electronics from John Healy (aka Somatic Responses duo with brother Paul)—his own BLAEN alias continues to push forward a veritable feast of off-center sound spaces and sub-genres. Pathogen Enhanced is chopped into four unique pieces of otherworldly industrial techno versions of itself (“Orig-mix,” “Elec-mix,” “Tech-mix,” and “Outro”—closing via an explosive ambient soundtrack.) It’s a roaring locomotive at full-speed.
Eight TF EP sees another four-pack of mechanical deconstruction—each piece filled to the brim with grit and grime, broken rhythms, Aphex Twin-like noise-scapes (ref. “Muid iri”), and yet another baffling drone-infested beauty closes off the EP titled “Gi Fetth (Live version).” It’s no surprise that BLAEN encapsulates the farthest depths of electrical collisions; he’s been at it for over two decades, honing his skills behind machines and dangling cables.
The Decay of Beauty develops over seven tracks; an exhausting culmination of all that’s come before—fidgeting electro shenanigans (“Pinch Punch…”), corrosive industrial rhythms (“Kids Fort (v2Lec)”), and sandblasted atmospheric noise (“The Decay of Beauty”)—this time closing with techno and braindance-infused acid swirls on “Helc1 (Hope…).” The Decay of Beauty is perhaps the most rounded of the three pack noted here, showcasing depth, density, and drive behind its sculptures of sound.
More please.
