A mind-bending modular electronic foray that shape shifts through dark cavernous channels

Recorded live in the Macro-Chamber, Ammanford, Wales, Somatic Responses unleashed a surprisingly chilled modular album recently with almost 60 minutes of utter analog manipulation. Described as “a sonic textural exploration” utilizing several instruments, there is a maturation of sound—each glitch, blip, bleep and spark rolls right into the next. At times diving into atmospheric drones and leftfield tones, darkness prevails with a few lightened beats taking an ethereal projection. The rhythmic ebb and flow of each piece is a natural progression where micro-bubbles of utter sonic beauty are revealed (ref. the epic 12-minute “Inhibitors”)—its mysterious glow drifts deep into the abyss. Tracks like “Smile130” and “Smile97” are contorted experiments that while seemingly abstract also deliver an astounding minimal punch. A few seeds take root in Subotnick-like formation—these four “Seeds” offer metallic shards, ambient undercurrents and shimmering highlights from the outer edges of our galaxy. A mind-bending modular electronic foray that shape shifts through dark cavernous channels and is a welcomed addition to our digital collection.
