Four visions of fine mental and physical techno electro excursions; preserving the deep lineage, while exploring innovative territory.

Seamlessly blending electro and ambient techno with atmosphere

With strong previous appearances and releases from Spin Fidelity, Mystic Future, Erell Ranson, Mariska Neerman, G-Prod, & Derek Carr—Nightflight Records further adds to its catalog with an intriguing electro and techno hybrid EP from British electronic maker Rekab—the musical side of longtime DJ James Baker. The producer builds here with a clean, spacey, and emotive presence, continuing the aesthetic of his work on Where We Met, Móatún, and Intellitronic Bubble, to name a few.

His latest record on Nightflight seamlessly blends electro and ambient techno with atmosphere and moods spanning darker territories; this is much to the delight of listeners looking for both the cerebral and energetic feel. It’s likewise, a cohesive listen on both sides of the wax; Side A introduces the EP with an array into deep techno beginning with A1 “Locked on Dodge”—a driving piece finely mixing Detroit techno rhythms with a nocturnal and industrial personality; wise acid basslines, funky hats, and cool lively effects. Closing off the A side is A2 “We Need To Care” with its pads that are classic emotive and full of 90s ambient flair, this track exudes an intelligent and mind relaxing aura; the result is quite a fine time, blending techno and IDM lines.

Exploring innovative territory ::

Side B is all about electro. Kicking off with B1 “In Search of The Deep Sea Dweller.” The moderate pacing on the track is perfect for its menacing and haunting synths that perhaps warn of the mysterious deep sea dangers, however the listener will still take the deep journey with the acid basslines, vocoders, and deep sea phantom vibes of this electro banger. A deep electro track, with equal sensibilities of the home and cool venue.

Concluding this EP is the modern Motor City leaning electro-funk of B2 “Too Much Time;” fresh doses of soul flow from the synth stabs and superb funky acid bassline of this track over sharp drums and peaking highs. This is exactly the energetic release a DJ or listener is seeking, especially if they want their electro straight to the point yet still smart and scientific in feel. B2 is an excellent hybrid of Sci-Fi and sharp modern electro-funk.

As the EP ends, the verdict is in that Nightflight Records and Rekab clearly score a win; four visions of fine mental and physical techno electro excursions; preserving the deep lineage, while exploring innovative territory. A highly recommended addition for your electronic catalog this spring and summer listening nights.
