The Exaltics / Gosub :: The Exaltics Meets Gosub (Solar One Music)

The Exaltics serve up two warming Electro tracks, toeing the line between detached and inviting. Gosub tears down any welcoming aspects, instead establishing an uneasy twosome of Electro dappled with disaffection.

The Exaltics / Gosub ‘The Exaltics Meets Gosub’

There are a handful of Electro labels and artists that are consistently releasing pure quality; Solar One Music and The Exaltics (Robert Witschakowski) are two that come to mind. SOM have just announced an exciting new series, The Exaltics Meets… Witschakowski’s first encounter is with Brooklyn’s Shad T. Scott, better known as Gosub. Scott is a pioneer of clever clinical Electro. The New Yorker now offers his services for this four tracker split EP.

The Exaltics occupy Side A, opening with “My Language.” Electro ferocity is present from the needle drop. A hard beat drives parallel to a motorcade of distortion. Witschakowski steeps the track in a subtle deepness, thick analogue chords softening the sharp snares. “Imoeh” follows with a similar sound. The clinical Electro core once again melts as The Exaltics drape analogue warmth over the Artic beats. The flipside is dedicated to Gosub. I’ve been a Gosub listener since he set up Isophlux back in the late 90’s. Shad. T. Scott left electronica behind him some time ago, cold crisp Electro being his sonorous focus these days. Mr Scott doesn’t disappoint for this new series. “Plug In” strides forth with Dopplereffekt style minimalism. Gosub has never been afraid to employ vocals, with emotion drained lyrics coiling around cold chords with a touch of added promiscuity. “You Can’t Escape The Present” is an unsteady track. The track has a volatile quality to it, with vocals being stretched and contorted in this peculiar run out.

With two heavy hitters like The Exaltics and Gosub, the first in The Exaltics Meets… series was always going to be an interesting outing. The Exaltics serve up two warming Electro tracks, toeing the line between detached and inviting. Gosub tears down any welcoming aspects, instead establishing an uneasy twosome of Electro dappled with disaffection. A solid start to a series with a lot of potential. Keep the ears and eyes open for the next EP.
