Tay0 :: Possible Futures EP (Nophi)

Tay0’s sound is one filled with erratic yet consistent elements of exp-electronics that must be examined over repeat listens for full absorption. Fans of early Toytronic and Neo Ouija take note.

If There is a Shining Point Where All Lines Intersect (High Grade Media, 2011) represented sparkling electronic flutter than Possible Futures is its brisk experimental counterpart. “Three Over” rolls over to exhibit bass drones and dreamscapes packed with field recordings and shuffling bits of rhythmic data. “Nightnoise”—an apt title—is an eerily exuberant sheet of disjointed stretches of dimness which doesn’t overextend itself in abstract sound design. “Impact” features what could be described as distorted NASA transmissions filtered above delicate, dark and curious atmospheric loops—a captivating listen that takes the listener into uncharted worlds. The title track contains the most upfront percussive engineering and offers clicks’n cuts blended with glitched-out chimes, drilling beat patterns and swirling tentacles of dust. The reflective nostalgia of “Run Stop” and its brittle melody evolves into sublime low-end thumps, electrical sparks and crumpled organic mayhem. All in all, Tay0’s sound is one filled with erratic yet consistent elements of exp-electronics that must be examined over repeat listens for full absorption. Fans of early Toytronic and Neo Ouija take note.
