S. Crosbie 'Dark Arts 01'

[Purchase] From Britain comes a new label espousing a blend of subdued techno and deep house. Dark Arts is born from “the culmination of close to twenty years spent on dance-floors, in DJ booths and in record shops across Europe.” Dark Arts 01 sees S. Crosbie dish up four tracks based on this two decade history of electronic submersion.

“Mid Blue” gets the ball rolling—a reserved and powerful track is the product. There are aspects of dub-techno embedded in the deep industrial folds, house tweaks rising throughout. “Broken Space” follows with a myriad of styles meeting. Techno takes the high ground, but aspects of breaks and electronics ebb and flow across the piece. The aptly name “Restraint” is a pressured piece, organic notes juxtaposed in vacuous bleeps. “Red Shift 2” closes the capsule door. A measured work of European dowsed techno, recalling the sounds of Irdial or Delsin.

An accomplished release by this new label. The 12” holds aspects of classic techno crossed with immersive house concoctions. Both a cerebral and floor-friendly outing from S. Crosbie proving Dark Arts as a label to keep an eye and ear on.
