Northcape :: Glasshouse EP (Sun Sea Sky)

Glasshouse is just that, a place where you’ll need to move about carefully to let the sound waves travel unfettered and undisturbed.

Northcape (aka Alastair Brown) returns to Sun Sea Sky with a half-dozen micro-opuscules on Glasshouse. “Capillary Action” features sincere bass, swirling ambience and delicate electrical contours as “Eukaryote” trickles into a stream of atmospheric synths, soft pads and elongated basslines. Northcape brings to life the essence of Warp Records’ Ai series from the early/mid 90s especially evident in the title track where sweeping polyrhythms flutter around downtempo melodic hues. “Raytracing,” yet another highlight, raises the bar with tranquilized bleep tones and harmonious electronic pulses. In all it seems Glasshouse is just that, a place where you’ll need to move about carefully to let the sound waves travel unfettered and undisturbed. Leaving a ray of light to shine in and disperse in all manner of color, this audio architect reveals a calmed emotive sound-escape that is serene, polished and quite nostalgic.

Glasshouse is available on Sun Sea Sky.
