(07.04.05) Monstrum Sepsis is Rob Wentz and Paul Karlick and Movement is the follow-up to their 2003 album Deep Sea Creatures. Monstrum Sepsis’ music has previously appeared in 2 of the Matrix series of films and also the Special Edition of Spiderman as well the Red Faction 2 and Punisher PC/console games. Their music has also appeared on VH1 and MTV.

With a development in sound that incorporates a more rhythmic structured approach and combines elements of the noise, ambient and early Warp genres, Movement offers a slick mix of laid-back beats and powerful noise influences. Following a more traditional rhythmic Warp influenced path are tracks such as the album open “Trojan Horse,” the smooth breaks of “Beat Per Trip” and “Tom Thumb.” Calming things further and providing a mellower more relaxed atmosphere are “The Total Cost” and “A Place and Time.” At the other extreme are the rhythmic power noise tracks more in keeping with the established Monstrum Sepsis sound. These tracks are where Monstrum Sepsis really shines, not because they are breaking any boundaries but because the tracks they produce in this mould are insanely infectious and powerful, combining rhythmic noise elements with a dash of texture and addictive dance beats. Tracks such as “Wasted & Shaven,” the industrial metallic “Green River,” “Corona Dissolve” and a seismic album high-point in the form “Least” present the noisy roots of the band.

Movement bears ambient, experimental and power noise influences but excels in the area of experimental noise, which is where the origin of the Monstrum Sepsis sound lies. Some of the strongest tracks on the album are loud, furious and industrially influenced.

Movement is out now on WTII.
