Jared Wilson :: For Professional DJ Use Only (7777)

The 12” throws sly sneers and is bound to decimate underground dwellers, all bar the finale which might sooth, or furrow, the brow of the late night escapist.

Jared Wilson ‘For Professional DJ Use Only’

As a youngster Acid always had a place on my turntables. The liquid electricity of the 303 squawked with a dry desperation and brutalized beauty. It seems, now more than ever, the sounds of the infamous Roland machine are pouring from speakers in living rooms and dancefloors. The second coming of House, or Acid House, has reignited the return of the sound and undoubtedly bolstered the sale of the x0xb0x. One child of Detroit has been switch-blading clubs with his sharp ended acid, Jared Wilson. With releases on the likes of Lux Rec and Dolly, Wilson has produced gritty 303 twisted tracks. For the latest three tracker, For Professional DJ Use Only, Wilson returns to his own 7777 label.

“808 Snake” is a slithering and sinister piece of warped Acid. Aggressive with a flurry of toms with a beefy bassline bite. Antagonistic, coiled and squalid. “A Little Moonlight Dancing (Live 8 Mix)” is a coursing piece of 303 music. Wilson bends and contorts melodies around machine beats to produce a quality piece. The 12” closes with “Next New.” The track is the slowest of the trio, Wilson continuing with his Roland sound but reducing the tempo. Vocals arrive in a late 90s throwback (not too sure about these) for a low impact finale.

Wilson’s latest is interesting as it seems to have many elements of past EP’s. “808 Snake” has a cleaner production, similar to his outing on Dolly. “A Little…” takes its cue from early 7777 sounds where “Next New” sits between the older and newer sides. The 12” throws sly sneers and is bound to decimate underground dwellers, all bar the finale which might sooth, or furrow, the brow of the late night escapist. Very well rounded stuff from Mr. Wilson.

For Professional DJ Use Only is available on 7777.
