IXRQ :: EP1 (Self-Released)

While EP1 offers about 10-minutes of nostalgic synthesized lightening bolts, there are some great ideas buried within it that merit further exploration.

IXRQ :: EP1 (Self-Released)

IXRQ is Simon Matthews—mainly known as Ventolyn & Becotyde—and this 4-track EP sparks and spans through a myriad of classic braindance infused beauty. It’s not an Aphex Twin knockoff, but a kudos to crisp and reflective electronics, glitch, acid, broken-electro and IDM fusions brought on by Mr. James (listen to “Shortcut” and “Mother.V2” a few times to get an idea). Might as well add that IXRQ also reminds these ears of classic Global Goon material—the focus on short and sweet electrical bits simply bounce and ricochet with lively energy. Each track around the 2-minute mark, it would have been interesting to hear where these ideas might go as the briskly polished beats, bass and disjointed melodies seem to glimpse at a larger sonic platform. “Make You Love Me” contains splattered and washed-out lyrics stretched to incomprehensible form leading you into the heart of this percussive storm. While EP1 offers about 10-minutes of nostalgic synthesized lightening bolts, there are some great ideas buried within it that merit further exploration.

EP1 is available on Bandcamp.
