Daniel Thomas & Kevin Sanders :: Four More Cosmic Jams… (Cherry Row)

Droning like a flax mill left running on standby ever since the textile industry in Leeds took a downturn in the 1850s, the numerically titled quartet of tracks evolves as one, long, linked churr that murmurs, cries out in pique.

On his new CDR imprint Cherry Row Recordings, Daniel Thomas (already helming the ever-delightful Sheepscar Light Industrial 3-inch only label) huddles once again with Kevin Sanders to generate sooty, dystopic hum. Droning like a flax mill left running on standby ever since the textile industry in Leeds took a downturn in the 1850s, the numerically titled quartet of tracks evolves as one, long, linked churr that murmurs, cries out in pique, fizzles as a bleak, damp wind sweeps through its great unpeopled empty hall, and finally frazzles and wheezes its last. The Four Cosmic Jams are harassing, a bit frightening—instead of welcoming a clutch of perky sparrows, you fear they will get pulled into the blades of the extractor fan and hammered flat—and due to the arch handiwork of Thomas & Sanders, if not exactly cosmic, achingly effective.
