[Info page] Blips and beeps frolic in underwater dub-bass tones while micro-melodies dive straight into the heart on Talk To You, the latest EP from Rump Recordings founder Jens B. Christiansen, also known as Rumpistol.
Subtle folk-like timbres unfold on “Don’t Go,” a heart-wrenching minimal dub piece that reflects Plaid’s emotive tones. The sprinkling of vocal samples and sporadic bursts of ghostly lyrical splashes is conveyed smoothly within each piece and a subdued Jamie Lidell versus Burial dynamic emerges from the loosened undergrowth of beats, bass and debris.
It’s the stripped down nature of the production that inspires and solidifies Talk To You‘s organic mood. And it doesn’t just stop there. These discernible audio reference points are executed with a high level of detail and clarity. The attention to low flying bass lines elevates Talk To You into undefined territory, and a laid-back style catches the ears attention and doesn’t let go. “Through All This Madness,” with its darkened facade actually pushes through and infects the subconscious beautifully; this is where Rumpistol shimmers from all angles. Bass lines run rampant with controlled chaos and a plateau of tempered melodies dribble alongside well-crafted percussive sculptures. Even the closing title track remixed by System delivers the goods with its kaleidoscopic elements of electro loosely stirring up the dance floor.
