» Yoko Solo‘s Top-10 LP’s to soil yourself by in August ::
“As I huddle beneath the furnace here at Quake Trap, covered in a sour fluid
and shaking from the bitter mists that flow in through the crumbling walls,
I reach a shaking hand up to the “machine” and flip the activation switch.”
10. Burnt Friedman [Non Place] :: Plays Love Songs
It’s crunchy, it’s rubbery, it skitters and shakes and occasionally occupies a boat or a
factory. This is a very stanky blend of machines and humans, music and
noise.
09. Two Lone Swordsman :: The Fifth Mission (Return to the Flightpath Estate)
[Emissions Audio Output]: Slow and weird and gentle and dope. This double
album from 1996 is the shit. As a bonus, the album art has a drawing of a
12 year old girl in a gas mask, ready to hurl a Molotov Cocktail.
08. Near The Parenthesis :: Go Out and See [Music Made by People]
From this summer but feels like the aforementioned 1996. The mellow reverberations of
a lost world softly carry me up off the floor and into the sky where all the
little fluffy clouds are…and you care because I do. This meandering,
melody-heavy gem manages to hook quickly without ever becoming dull,
predictable mush. Amazing.
07. Chachi Jones :: Claustrophilia [Lunaticworks]
It’s 1996 again, but a fly
got stuck in the time machine with me. Now I see everything in
fly-o-vision… and the music’s a little bit fucked up. Weird, friendly,
busted, rythmic, and washing waves cross-pollinate and breed the familiar
with the unusual to craft an LP that hovers in the sky, loosing robotic bats
to chew you softly, strangely.
06. The Exposures :: Lost Recordings 2000-2005 [Eastern Developement]
The “Exposures” backstory is utter bullshit created by the true artist, Jan
Jelinek (I think). Regardless, the album is an addictive and complex web of
head-nodding squibbler beats bumping to sample-heavy noise flow. Dig it!
05. The Tourist :: Mindi fism O.K. EP [Self-released]
Syrupy, mutant,
lurching, busted-dance murk beats flow freely from this pink CDR that is
nesting in tthe stereo over there, building a rotten home of
squalor…ating, reproducing, soiling my existence and bringing forth
unsavory thoughts that entertain and alarm. I need a shower.
04. The Feature :: Graizelbain Tweezbaus [Siladi]
Mulchtronic, swimming in
my brain, crawling into the fibers of my nerves, The Feature pumps ruthless
glitchJunk into my frayed existence and rolls my decaying form into an
electrostatic blur. And then it smokes me.
03. Plastikman :: Consumed [Novamute]
This album never leaves the rotation,
constantly pulsing and pummeling my skull whether it is playing or not. I
honestly think that Mr. Hawtin was channeling a strange being’s
communication to our existence…a transmission that speaks volumes within
it’s subtle, restrained folds. Blah blah blah!!!
02. Fool’s Pool :: Dopestyles 1231/4am [Nightmare Soul]
SF flip-hop with
enough raw flavor to blow 99% of its genre-mates out the window and up into
space. When I first hit play, I was overcome with that sense of urgency
similar to what that aging punker (howling, slobbering, menacing his
companions) was ranting about when he spoke of first hearing the Clash.
Rough and dirty, Fool’s Pool is a revelation.
Daedelus :: Of Snowdonia [Plug Research]
Some kind of red-headed stepchild, why doesn’t
the world embrace this pill-popping album of schitzo glory? This album may
have brought on a Philip K. Dickian paranoia (nobody loves me, my entrails
are made of wire, the phone is tapped, nobody cares about Of Snowdonia). A
squirming work, sad and stupid and giddy and brilliant.
