Nineteen shadow-bound composers unite for a two-hour Lovecraftian descent into Arctic dread—an immense dark ambient ritual where bowed strings, frozen winds, and unseen beasts awaken the terror of H. P. Lovecraft’s Mythos and the howling presence of Ithaqua.
Hollow Earth myths and post-apocalyptic visions merge in this sonic descent into subterranean folklore, where lost civilizations and unseen beings haunt vast underground realms. Featuring artists like Dead Melodies, Beyond the Ghost, The Next Commuter, Northumbria, Dronny Darko, Claymation, and Ugasanie, these dark ambient soundscapes evoke ruined cities, cryptic transmissions, and shadowy creatures. Through dense drones and haunting textures, we’re guided into the aftermath of civilization—where memory, myth, and decay converge.
Highlighting hundreds of releases in 2024 (and allowing December to set in), we’ve compiled a list of our favorites along with links to their corresponding Igloo reviews and release pages. Since the lists are arranged alphabetically by artist—and a snapshot of tracks are featured in our Soundcloud playlist along with selected Bandcamp tracks and random artwork selections—there are, as usual, no winners or runners-up.
