Yard :: Dread Action EP (Yard Rec)

Spacious dub extracts broken up by subconscious streams in a brisk 33-minute jaunt through the 4th dimension.

Described in the press sheet as “Dark, eerie post-apocalyptic vibes for an apocalyptic world. Begun in the dread of the political and cultural decay of the 2016 US elections—the overarching sense of dread and fear permeates all.” While Dread Action is a definitive political statement, there are some good things to come out of a bad situation, and Yard is here to set the record straight via his slant on distracted electro-techno. Opening with “Dread,” a vehement machined bass roll pushes out the darkness to let the light slip through its jagged fissures. “Fear” delves into warped four to the floor blips and dub splashes as “False Hope” takes on a laid back breaks and downtempo groove. Certainly driven to action, “Crying” maneuvers through microscopic bass elements and encrusted clicks and cuts to deliver its message of resistance. “Blood” takes on a similar trajectory, its organic, curious, and almost tribal feel slithers with relative ease as “Driven”—perhaps the darkest sound-dystopia of the lot—delivers rhythmic drones flickering about while a drum cacophony administers its hypnotic spell. In all, these six pieces offer spacious dub extracts broken up by subconscious streams in a brisk 33-minute jaunt through the 4th dimension.

Dread Action is available on Yard Rec.
