Cultivated Electronics is on an Electro mission, a mission which has been running a number of years and produced some excellent releases. Of late the UK imprint has been focused on artist EPs, but for its latest Sync 24’s label returns to it foundations with the start of a series of 12″ compilations from assorted Electro enthusiasts. CE cut its teeth with some quality various artist outings, but can the latest live up to the historical?
World Electronix Volume 1 is opened by Carl A Finlow under his Silicon Scally pseudonym. Finlow has been much quieter with his output of late but serves up a hardy piece of Electro for CE. The toughened snares bolster the mechanical quality of the track. Clinical and driving, Silicon Scally destroys with a cold futuristic fist. Spain’s Boris Divider drops the intensity with a work of science fiction inspiration. Distant sounds are bounced from satellites with the steady machine beat holding the track within the earth’s atmosphere. Label boss Sync24 hooks up with “Deixis” for a chilling piece of tundra Electro. The temperature may have dropped in the laboratory but the clinical currents remain. Finnish masters Morphology close with a final flourish of icicle festooned fusion. The track has definite echoes of Dopplereffekt and Arpanet with its clean and abstract composition.
Years have passed since Cultivated Electronics clicked the switch and became a label. But, the goal from then till now has been constant: Electro. On this front the latest does not disappoint. Under the genre banner come tracks from some of the modern virtuosos of the sound. Each of the quartet explore the sound from a different vantage; astral abstraction to surgical strictness. The beginning of what looks to be a very promising series.
World Electronix Volume 1 is available on Cultivated Electronics. Buy at Clone or Juno.
