Wilder Gonzales Agreda :: 1994 EP (Superspace)

Are these opposing sonic forces or perhaps distant stars finding each other in The Milky Way? Ultimately, 1994 is a pleasant sojourn and a tangled mess, and we enjoyed every minute.

A pleasant sojourn and a tangled mess

Peru-based Wilder Gonzales Agreda’s 2-track release on his own Superspace imprint sees a careful balance between pitter-patter ambient electronica and interwoven glitch’n bleeps as the opening title track spans over 10-minutes of delicate melodic notes drifting in atmospheric waves. On the flip side, Agreda veers at a slightly different angle. On “En el Bar Tenjira,” there’s a technoid flow that takes over; the rubbery rhythms and shuffling channels gradually intensify as the cacophony of noise and crunchy soundscapes begin to break down and dither (after 12-minutes). The distortion finally coalesces and it all starts to make sense, sort of. Are these opposing sonic forces or perhaps distant stars finding each other in The Milky Way? Ultimately, 1994 is a pleasant sojourn and a tangled mess, and we enjoyed every minute.
