Sly moments are accompanied by softer touches and an overall understanding of the dancefloor sums up VernoN’s sound. Soulful segments are lampooned by aggression and outright savagery.
Night Gallery Records returns in 2013 with something from a new kid on the Acid block. VernoN, a French 303 enthusiast, is fresh from his recent outing with Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and ready for another vinyl expedition: Fluids, Matter and Gravity.
“Body Fluid” rumbles out with some bawdy basslines. In some ways it opens a little too strong shouldered, waddling rather than striding. But as the Acid line develops the track reveals itself as an absolute bruiser. Dark and ruthless, the initial swagger is reduced into a fiendish folly of machine beat and Roland squawk. “Gravity Probe II” buffers the tempo. Bleeps are tapped out amid warbling bass and subdued snare. The ludicrously titled “Pfonk4dawgz” leads the EP to a close. Some of the more relaxed sounds of Chicken Run are present. Memories of Piano House are present in this lightly distorted piece of late session electronics.
VernoN has two releases under his belt. Both follow the Chicago path, but with a different step. Sly moments are accompanied by softer touches and an overall understanding of the dancefloor sums up VernoN’s sound. Soulful segments are lampooned by aggression and outright savagery. Three diverse tracks from an EP exploring the range of House music sounds.
