Valanx :: Ejecta (diametric.)

This is cerebral, cinematic and, at points, outright scary music. Disturbing and unsettling soundscapes from the catacombs of Valanx.

Arne Weinberg’s Valanx is an insular audio beast. This modular synthesizer creature has stalked imprints like Elephant Records and SonouS. As the Scottish night steadily consumes the fading day, Weinberg is mirroring the winter mood with the icy winds of Ejecta.

Humanity is immediately drained from the equation. Brutal broad bars bring the menacing “Scoundrels” to life. “Spawn” reduces some of that initial intent but maintains the harshness. The threat of violence intensifies. Alongside this threat is a tremendous pressure, a clawing claustrophobia that reverberates with anti-social tendencies. “Legion_v2” seems to consume itself. Fragments of recognition are swallowed in a lake of brushed tin and aluminum. An unmistakable industrial motif permeates the collection. Clanks are refracted against empty concrete columns and towering pallets of prefabricated steel. With “Amygdala” it feels that those looming translucent clouds might be lifting, but that intensely thick fog remains. Tension is stacked upon sensual strain. Paranoia becomes omnipresent, “Impending Doom.” A squelching soundtrack to the subconscious closes. “Chasm” burrows ever deeper, fear and self-doubt falling into one another in this last pitiless piece.

Weinberg’s ambient musings as Valanx have always been dark, but Ejecta is even more sepulchral. This is cerebral, cinematic and, at points, outright scary music. Disturbing and unsettling soundscapes from the catacombs of Valanx.

Ejecta is available on diametric..
