Consumed as a whole of its parts, Primordial Soup is an aptly-titled release that segues between minimal bursts of energy, crunchy distortion, and abstract low-end tones that merge with stretched-out drones and layered electrical debris.
Consumed as a whole of its parts, Primordial Soup is an aptly-titled release that segues between minimal bursts of energy, crunchy distortion, and abstract low-end tones that merge with stretched-out drones and layered electrical debris. The title-track is perhaps the most explosive of all, its smorgasbord of mechanical noises shatters into thousands of pieces as it rumbles with a moving pulse. Elsewhere you’ll find erratic squeaks, clips, scratches, and glitch meander in unfamiliar terrain. In contrast, “This Life” transmits a stripped-down audio shuffle of delicate digital bubbles that pop and disperse evenly. “Mitosis” is a gnarly beast in itself, and a favorite among the lot—its rippling baseline is carefully spread over light ambient flutter for a cohesive sonic onslaught. Seven tracks, and many light years ahead, the vast alien landscape explored here interacts with broken modular machinery, and the result is an eerie soundscape that continuously drifts and breaks apart.
Primordial Soup is available on Amek Collective.
