Solar One Music is synonymous with Electro. The German imprint has released clinical machine music from the likes of The Exaltics, Kormarken Electronics and Impakt. But, SOM is not just about Electro. Unhöerbar is SOM’s sublablel. To date Unhöerbar have focussed on colder sounds but Techno is the path. From an Unknown Artist comes an Untitled EP.
All tracks are untitled—mystery running throughout. The opener is straight up techno. Minimal, agitated and raw; the track drives forward with a 4/4 energy. The tracks have a Detroit aspect to them, with some being reminiscent of Arne Weinberg’s recent Tangula release. The second inning has some dubbier elements but keeps the tougher tones. The flips tears forward with strong mechanical beats and a coursing energy. The tracks aren’t dissimilar to the sounds of RE(FORM) and the record ends as it began, pounding bass and beats to close.
SOM is an Electro label, Unhöerbar has mainly focussed on Electro. Now, this Unknown Artist has brought some Techno to the table which isn’t particularly ground breaking. What you are getting is well produced, raw and functional cuts of Techno making for an interesting departure by the SOM team.
Untitled is available on Unhöerbar.
