The Seducers :: Music for Heroes 12″ (Cytown)

(February 2010) Cytown Records returns after a period of inactivity with a new release, Music for Hereos. The label founders, The Seducers, have not released since the label’s first two records back in 2006. Now the half man half robot outfit are back with a brand new 12″.

The EP sees The Seducers moving into the electro arena once again. The 12″ is introduced with the distorted tones of “The Anthem.” The track reflects the sounds of Scandinavian electro, minimal soundscapes formed with vintage electronic machines. “The Battle (Death Cruise)” follows in a similar style. Warped tones circle the background with electrostatic snares and cold synthlines shifting through. The tracks mirror the sounds of Stilleben and Bunker, but the B-Side opener, “Fooled for Fools,” splits this trend. Xylophonic chords are the backbone of the composition, toying with the snares and bass that accompany them. These central tones have a pared back house aspect with The Seducers once again showing off their classic equipment in their style. “Our Synthesizer” ends the record. The collective personal preposition mocks the listener into thinking this will be a warm and friendly piece, expect the opposite. “Our Synthesizer” is a clinically sinister work of chilling electro, dark vocoded lyrics slice through the icy chords creating a hollow and desolate scape.

The Seducers style is stripped back electro, similar to that of Minimal Rome but perhaps bared to a greater extent. The tracks are for electro lovers, they are not dancefloor slammers but clever works that echo the cold Scandinavian climate and the automatons that made it.
