Analoguue Chat is a newly launched and promising label. I like its concept and intention to deliver an alternative breath to the standardized musical industry, thanks to original craft-based and ultra limited editions as well as various inde community initiatives. The launch of this label is the result of a partnership between Paul Smith (from Shimmering Moods) and Richard Cunliffe (It’s Just Music, Baby Radio program). For those who are not familiar with those two names, Paul and Richard can be considered as passionate musical producers / promoters in touch with anything related to home-made ambient, electronic then experimental and dream-folk music from the past to nowadays.
Se Vende (For Sale) is the second full length release offered by Richard Cunliffe (aka The Laborer). His first has been reviewed at Igloo and made a lasting impression with its touching corpus of micro ambient scenery punctuated by field recordings and poetic sound textures. Se Vende (For Sale) presents a slight new musical and stylistic turn, with a more radical approach, it also includes more minimal electronic chill-out sequences. The album is subtly accompanied by green / urban field recordings taken from various areas in Alicante (Spain). The opening theme is a catchy and cinematic abstract ambient track with hypnotic pulsating effects, noisy interference and long sinuous sound waves. The second track delivers a sonic soundscape built on altered then blurry droning sequences. “Chimes Pt 2” is a colorful and deliciously inviting musical sculpture—a nice ecological sound study which suddenly mutates into a kinetic and beat laden ambient orchestration with an IDM flavor.
