Whether taken in small doses or as a whole, Cause and Effect arouses the mind and stirs the soul. Powerful, surrealistic, mysterious, beautiful.
Sardinia’s SaffronKeira (aka Eugenio Caria) has been classified as dark ambient, experimental, electronica and more, and while his solo works, A New Life and Tourette, can be open for individual interpretation, they are in fact, concept albums, inspired by complicated and quite emotionally charged experiences and subjects. Caria’s co-conspirator, Mario Massa, was born and raised in Sardinia as well. He is a very experienced and skilled trumpet player with a colorful musical background and an orphic jazz-infused sound.
Cause and Effect is the outcome of a perfect connection between two musical worlds that are different in sound and style but driven by the same kinds of fuel: passion, improvisation, adventurousness.
Emotive, electronically enhanced brass wizardry looms over the horizon, illuminating electronically made bleak tundras filled with stormy activity of squeaking, twitching, crumbling, clicking and piercing sounds that strike with surgical precision. The luminous, fluid trumpet layers captivatingly interact with the granular, rough and glitchy. The flow is wild yet natural, it feels right, it feels bold.
After a little tour in Germany—that included a successful performance at the Denovali Swingfest in Essen in October—and visits in Belgium and Switzerland, the Sardinian fellows allow everybody to get a hold of their joint creation. Caria and Massa wove ten mind-bending, vast sonic tapestries that don’t sound like anything else. Whether taken in small doses or as a whole, Cause and Effect arouses the mind and stirs the soul. Powerful, surrealistic, mysterious, beautiful.
Cause and Effect is available on Denovali.
